Doug Card

Douglas Card, PhD, grew up and went to school in Southern Oregon and Eugene; graduated from Willamette U. and worked on a doctorate in sociology from U. of Oregon; learned Russian serving in the army in Germany; returned to Roseburg in 1977 after teaching college in Ohio and San Diego and taught at Umpqua Community College; became interested in Douglas County history where he was an officer in the Douglas County Historical Society and founded the Umpqua Historic Preservation Society, developing the Mill-Pine Historic District; returned to Eugene to complete his PhD in sociology, worked in the mental health field, and ended up teaching sociology at the UO until last year. Luis Gamez, Oregon tree faller Luis Gamez, 46, was born in Roseburg and moved to Oakridge in 1971. He lives in the High Prairie hills above town with his wife of 25 years, Niki, and their two children, Orie and RO. He has worked in the Oregon woods as a tree faller for 22 years.
Nancy Gowins portraying Mary Skinner Nancy Gowins’ love of history led her to conduct an exhaustive study on the Lewis & Clark Expedition which began her journey into historical interpretation. " Sacagawea" was her first historical character and to date has presented to numerous adult groups, civic organizations, and to well over a thousand school children. More about Nancy Gowins >>>
Mark Harris

Mark Harris teaches Ethnic Studies and Addiction Studies at Lane Community College. He, along with Cheri Turpin, have been developing A Multicultural Ethnic History of Eugene. They are not trained historians, but they have observed that the professional historians have largely been silent or inactive about making those subjects they’ve been speaking about, visible. Mark infuses mostly Cheri Turpin’s and some of his research into his classes, writings, and radio commentary.

Willie Mims The Mims Family History

On April 2, 1902, Annie Skinner was born in Dangerfield Texas. She attended school there until she was about 15 years old, when she married C.B. Mims on August 1, 1917. Annie and C.B. Mims had 2 children: Pearlie Mae Joiner, who currently resides in Springfield, and Willie Mims, who resides in Eugene. Annie and C.B. Mims left a living legacy of seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. More about Mims Family History >>>
